He was 20 years old, and it’s a shame that we lost a rising star at the peak of his maturity.
XXXTentacion Early Life
On January 23, 1998, Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy was born in Plantation, Florida. Onfroy, who was raised by his grandma, Collette Jones, started acting violently at a young age, attempting to stab a man who was attacking his mother. His first musical exposure came from the church chorus and the school choir, though the latter he was expelled from for attacking another student.
After more physical altercations, he was removed from middle school. During this time, XXX developed a passion for rock and nu-metal and began learning the piano and guitar. In the tenth semester, Onfroy dropped out of secondary school due to depression and insecurity.
XXXTentacion Career
He made connections with other rappers in juvenile detention, such as Ski Mask the Slump God, after releasing the single “Gun/Flock” in 2013. Then he began releasing music on SoundCloud under the stage name “XXXTentacion.” Spanish for “temptation” is “tentacion.” Onfroy published his first EP, titled “The Fall,” in 2014 after founding the group “Members Only.”
Before quitting his job and devoting all of his time to music, XXX released additional mixtapes and EPs. He began creating “Bad Vibes Forever,” his debut album, in 2016 despite legal problems. However, his breakthrough came in 2017 with the release of the song “Look at Me.” Even though he was released in 2017 and released more studio albums and mixtapes, including “I Need Jesus” and “17,” another prison sentence delayed the start of his work.
Onfroy launched “The Revenge Tour” in 2017. Several problems came up during this trip, including stabbings, altercations, and more. He released a music video for “Look at Me” after publishing his first solo mixtape, “Revenge.” Eventually, his first solo record, “17,” was certified triple platinum. XXXTentacion’s audio was still made available after his passing.
XXXTentacion’s Legal Issues
Onfroy struggled with legal problems even after his initial arrest for gun possession in a juvenile facility. He was detained and accused of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and home invasion two years later. Then, XXX was accused of false imprisonment, tampering with a witness, and aggravated assault on a pregnant victim in association with the same case.
He eventually received a house detention release. After being released, a video of Onfroy punching a lady in 2013 appeared. Later in 2018, audio was made public that purportedly contained XXXTentacion admitting to a number of crimes, including domestic abuse and stabbings.
Geneva Ayala, XXX’s ex-girlfriend, is likely engaged in the majority of these confessions. Since then, she has charged the rapper with severe abuse. Ayala claims that while she was present, the artist made numerous suicide threats.
XXXTentacion left behind a legacy that divided people after his passing, according to observers. On the one hand, he “gave depression and mental health issues a voice.” On the other side, he seemed to have abused many people without any regret. In fact, he publicly “brags” about hurting others in many of his songs.
How much had XXXTentacion signed?
It was announced that XXXTentacion had inked a $6 million record deal in October 2017. XXX abruptly called off the $6 million contract shortly after making the announcement. It was ultimately discovered that XXX had signed a $10 million deal to release his upcoming album with a company called Empire in the weeks prior to his passing.
XXXTentacion Estate Disputes
Onfroy’s half-brother Corey Pack sued XXX’s mother Cleopatra Bernard for an estate conflict after he passed away. He sought at least $11 million in penalties and more access to a trust fund that XXX allegedly left for Pack and two other beneficiaries. Jodi Kavney, Pack’s mother, filed the lawsuit on her son’s behalf, claiming that Bernard had planned to steal money from the trust to use for her own benefit.
These allegations claim that Pack and XXX’s sibling Aiden Kerr were to split the remaining 50% of the trust fund’s funds, leaving Bernard to receive only 50% of the money as it was. Bernard, according to Kaveny, “improperly and covertly transferred” the complete amount into her own accounts.
Kavney and her boy are requesting up to $33 million if they can demonstrate that Bernard stole the money on purpose. The lawsuit also makes reference to Pack’s claimed “ownership rights” to XXX’s posthumous record label, Bad Vibe Entities. It’s also thought that XXX has a sizable collection of unpublished music that will enable his family to continue releasing albums for a very long time.
XXXTentacion Real Estate
In 2018, it was claimed that XXXTentacion was about to move into a $1.4 million house when he passed away. The 6,000-square-foot home is situated in Parkland, Florida, just 15 minutes from the scene of the rapper’s murder. The house had four bedrooms, a swimming pool, and more than an acre of land. During his final days, he was preoccupied with decorating and remodelling, and a construction team was erecting a substantial security fence around the perimeter. This could have been a sign that XXXTentacion was aware of the risk.
Additionally, before he passed away, XXXTentacion was in the midst of purchasing at least four homes for his family. This included buying his mother a $3.4 million house that he directly chose for her. Additionally, this house was situated in Parkland, Florida. The 6-bedroom house, which has more than 15,000 square feet, was dubbed “perfect for entertaining” by realtors. A feeling of grandeur is enhanced by high ceilings, a spacious foyer, and a winding staircase. In the end, XXXTentacion’s mother did settle there.
Later, real estate documents showed that the rapper had bought four homes in South Florida in 2018. Allegedly, all of these were meant for use by his family. These four homes cost him $1.7 million in total. He paid $420,000 for one, $467,500 for another, $385,000 for a third, and $500,000 for a fourth. These four houses each had three beds or more.
