Bette sighed, “It is quite sweet,” as she thought about how much the Sanderson Sisters were loved.
Despite the fact that they kill people. The sisters share a special closeness.
E! News said that Kathy had similar feelings, calling the first film
a crazy runaway classic.
Hocus Pocus 2 is definitely a movie for the aficionados.

Harmony in a Circle
It all starts with an arranged marriage gone wrong, a devoted spider, and a run for it in the woods as the Sanderson Sisters’ backstory is revealed in the opening scene of the sequel. At this point in the original Hocus Pocus film, things had gotten out of hand, and Mary suggested they make a “calming circle” in the woods.
Songs Singing “Come, Little Children”
Sarah’s childhood song, “Come Little Children,” has its roots in this recollection of the sisters’ formative years. Hannah Waddingham’s Witch Mother performed the song in the Forbidden Forest long before Sarah used it to influence the children of Salem.
Spells from Winifred’s Book
In the start of Hocus Pocus 2, Winifred reveals that the grimoire she has purchased has an incantation for “cat transformation.” A later application of this spell on Thackery Binx transforms him into a black cat, as fans of the original film will recall.
The Residence of the Sanderson Sisters
The Sanderson Witch Museum has been repurposed as a magic shop in modern-day Salem. The Sanderson Sisters’ magic book and the melted Black Flame Candle are the only remnants of the shop’s original decor, which has been modernised to a certain extent.
Candle with a Dark Flame
After being killed off in the previous film, Winifred, Sarah, and Mary were able to return in Hocus Pocus 2 thanks to a fresh Black Flame Candle. Becca (Whitney Peak), an aspiring witch, lights the Black Flame Candle and uses it in a birthday magic in the wilderness.
Return Request: Clothing
Actress Lilia Buckingham, who plays Cassie in the sequel, told E! News in an exclusive interview that her final costume is a reference to Max’s (Omri Katz) and Allison’s (Vinessa Shaw) outfits. The place “where I’m wearing that cardigan and the tie-dye,” she said. Whenever she wears that cardigan and he wears that tie-dye shirt, they are meant to be references to Max and Allison.
Izzy, played by Be-lissa Escobedo, revealed that her burgundy cardigan was a nod to Allison’s famous red jacket from the original film. Remember, she’s wearing that red hooded thing,” she said. This is akin to a callback on my part.
Singing by the Sanderson Sisters
In spite of the fact that the Sanderson Sisters (really Bette, Sarah, and Kathy) don’t quite reach the heights of their Hocus Pocus performance of “I Put a Spell on You,” their new show-stopping routines prove that they are still formidable.
Salt
Becca and her best friend Izzy use salt to ward off the Sanderson Sisters’ spells during their first encounter with them. In multiple scenes in Hocus Pocus, Allison uses salt as a weapon against Winifred, Sarah, and Mary.
Modernized Sweeping Tools
After having their witches’ brooms taken by trick-or-treaters in the first Hocus Pocus film, Winifred, Sarah, and Mary are each left to utilise an unconventional broom, mop, and vacuum. For similar reasons, the sisters in Hocus Pocus 2 resort to a broom, Swiffer, and Roomba when they run out of brooms.
In the sequel, the Sanderson Sisters use modern brooms, which co-star Doug Jones, who plays Winifred’s late ex-lover Billy Butcherson, thinks is great. The idea of Kathy Najimy releasing Roombas was “the most fantastic prank,” he gushed to E! News. “And that turned into a major storyline aspect in the story. After all, their assistance was essential.”
Booooook!
Winifred, echoing the character from the 1993 film Hocus Pocus, yells “Booook!” when she needs to retrieve her magical spell book.
Quotes That Have Been Favored by the Fans
While there are many fresh elements to love in Hocus Pocus 2, the filmmakers also made care to include certain fan favourites in the sequel. Sarah, while riding a broom, chants, “Amok! Amok! Amok!” After using magic to imprison Becca and Izzy, Winifred boasts, “I haven’t lost my touch.” At the end of the new film, Mary exclaims “Buh-bye” in her trademark humorous fashion.
How Gilbert Got His Name
Sam Richardson’s character Gilbert admits that he went out for Halloween 1993 to collect candy. He tells the witches how, after witnessing the Sanderson Sisters take flight, he grew enamoured with them. In addition, he claims that the bullies from Hocus Pocus, most likely Ice and Jay, stole his candy earlier in the evening.
Return of Billy
Billy Butcherson, the zombie that climbed into his grave at the end of the first Hocus Pocus, is back for the second film, but he’s just as decayed as he was before. To top it all off, Whitney revealed to E! News that Billy’s tombstone is displayed on the magic shop’s rolling cart.
A Salem resident’s TV plays a clip from Hocus Pocus 2: Master Devil and Medusa Lady Return—Kind of in homage to the late Garry Marshall and Penny Marshall’s cameo appearance in the original film. The film also features two locals of Salem who go all out for Halloween by dressing as the Master Devil and Medusa Lady.
