Ledisi started a band called Anibade in 1995, and the group gained popularity in the San Francisco Bay Area thanks to a cult-like following of devoted followers known as “Ledheads”, who showed her love at every appearance and sang along to songs that were unreleased at the time but were well-known to their audience.
On her LeSun Records label, Ledisi independently released her debut album, Soulsinger, in January 2000. Favourite tracks from the album include “Soulsinger,” “Take Time,” “Get Outta My Kitchen,” and “Good Lovin’.”
She signed with Verve and released “Blues in the Night” in 2006; it was included on the tribute album We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song.
Ledisi’s third album, Lost & Found, was released in August 2007. Ledisi admitted that she wasn’t sure if she wanted to continue working in the music business. Ledisi responded by penning the song “Alright” to describe her experience.
Ledisi’s fourth studio album, Turn Me Loose, was announced in 2009. The CD was made available on August 18, 2009.
R&B/soul performer Kem’s North American INTIMACY Tour featured Ledisi. Ledisi revealed that she finished recording her fifth studio album, Pieces of Me, on March 9, 2011, during her opening act in Atlanta, Georgia.
Ledisi collaborated with Essence Magazine to release her new album, The Truth, in March 2014, and Grammy Award winner Robert Glasper served as her opening act.
Ledisi released the song “High” in May 2017. Darhyl created “Hey DJ” Camper and Rex Rideout. Let Love Rule, her eighth studio album, was released on September 22, 2017.
Ledisi and Adam Lambert sang “As Long as You’re Mine” from Wicked in front of a live studio audience at the Marquis Theatre in New York in October 2018 as part of an NBC show titled A Very Wicked Halloween: Celebrating 15 Years on Broadway.
