Sony Xperia 10 IV: Good Performance, Excellent Battery, But Disappointing On One Point
In our test, the Sony Xperia 10 IV scores particularly well with a powerful battery. But in one thing, it makes for disappointed faces. Here are the details.
The Sony Xperia 10 IV at a glance
The Sony Xperia 10 IV convinces our test with the overall rating of “good” and can also score well in some individual categories. In addition to the excellent OLED display and solid performance, our testers praised the superb equipment. The Sony Xperia models have been among the front runners in gear for several generations of smartphones – including the 10 IV 8. The Xperia 10 IV also impresses with a first-class 5,000 mAh battery.
On the other hand, the triple camera performance is disappointing. Our CHIP test centre only rates this as “satisfactory” (grade 3.1). The resolution in daylight is okay and gets a rise of 1.7, but the Sony Xperia 10 IV camera shows significant weaknesses in weak light – there is a lack of detail and sharpness. There is only a grade of 4.2 for this.
Our conclusion at the time of testing:
“The Sony Xperia 10 IV impresses in the test above all with a strong battery and with its good OLED display. As is typical for Sony, the equipment leaves nothing to be desired. In terms of performance, on the other hand, no significant progress can be observed – but it needs it not. The biggest disadvantage of the Xperia 10 IV is the camera, which does not deliver satisfactory results, especially in low light. Photo enthusiasts will not be happy here. For fans of a smartphone with great features and a handy 21:9 format, it is worth taking a look at the Sony – Smartphones anyway.”
Sony Xperia 10 IV review
The Sony Xperia 10 IV convinces in the test above all with a strong battery and good OLED display. As is typical for Sony, the equipment leaves little to be desired. On the other hand, no significant progress can be observed in the area of performance, but it doesn’t need to either. The main disadvantage of the Xperia 10 IV is the camera, which does not deliver satisfactory results, especially in low light. Photo enthusiasts will not be happy here. For fans of a smartphone with great features and a handy 21:9 format, it is worth looking at the Sony smartphone.

- Long loading time
Sony Xperia 10 in text: Solid performance
The Sony Xperia 10 IV comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor and six GB of RAM. Loading our extensive test PDF takes a fairly average of 4.9 seconds. A solid value – although Sony’s top model, Xperia 1 IV, only needs 1.5 seconds. The Xperia achieves 20 frames per second in the GFX benchmark test (graphics performance). This value is primarily of interest to gamers and is negative compared to other models in this price range on our list of the best. Current triple-A games only run on the lowest graphics settings, if at all. Overall, the performance is quickly sufficient for all everyday tasks.
Smartphone with memory card slot
For several generations of smartphones, the Sony Xperia models have been among the front runners in terms of features. While the competition sometimes does without a memory card slot and jack connection, Sony sets an example and almost always uses everything possible:
- Storage is nominally 128 GB, with only 104.4 GB being freely available.
- The storage can be expanded via a microSD card slot.
- The Sony Xperia 10 IV offers a dual SIM function, whereby only one of the two slots can transmit via 5G
- The second SIM must also be paired as an eSIM
- It also transmits via NFC and Bluetooth 5.1 as well as Wi-Fi 5
- In addition to the already mentioned 3.5-millimeter jack connection, there is also the obligatory USB type C port as an analogue interface.
- The smartphone is protected against dust and water ingress according to the IP68 standard.
- The Xperia 10 IV can be unlocked biometrically via a fingerprint sensor and face recognition.
Sony offers the Xperia 10 IV in black, white, lavender or mint with a memory of 128 GB at a price of around 500 euros
Hours of surfing
The battery of the Xperia 10 IV has increased quite a bit compared to the previous model. In our demanding online runtime test, the 5,000 mAh battery lasted a total of 16:11 hours. The charging time is still very long at 2:10 hours but much faster than the 3:17 hours of the Xperia 10 III. After half an hour of charging, the battery is 35 per cent, and Wireless charging is impossible.
The 6-inch OLED display shines with 2,520 x 1,080 pixels, ensuring a perfect pixel density of 460 ppi. All content is displayed in a pleasantly sharp manner. The strong contrast values also speak for the Xperia 10 IV – the maximum brightness, on the other hand, could be a touch better. It would guarantee good legibility even under direct sunlight. You can find all the exact results on our leaderboard.
Regarding the refresh rate, Sony is not up to date and only offers the classic 60 Hertz. 90 or even 120 Hz, as the competition offers, ensure much smoother image progressions and are easier on the eye. The colour space coverage is excellent – and the white representation is also wonderfully neutral white.
Disappointing camera
Unfortunately, the triple camera is the biggest weakness of the Xperia 10 IV. Although the resolution is good in daylight and gets a grade of 1.7 from our experts, the camera shows significant defects in weak light. Only a rate of 4.2 is achieved here, which stands out very severely for this price segment – there is a lack of detail and sharpness. In contrast to the previous model, the Xperia 10 IV has an image stabilizer and uses 60 frames per second for video recordings. The selfies are at least satisfying. Our lab testers gave the camera setup an overall subjective rating of 3.5 (sufficient).
